Lee and Tiffany talk about some of their most memorable big games hunts outside of the whitetails woods. Both of them say that Tiffany's 2019 Yukon moose hunt is a contender for one of their favorites of all time, and it's one that almost didn't happen at all. Tiffany says a Yukon moose hunt had been something she had wanted to take on ever since Lee tackled it and arrowed a giant moose. However, the timing of her scheduled moose hunt was difficult as she had just recently lost her mom and had also battled cancer. With an encouraging nudge from Lee though, Tiffany says she decided to seize the opportunity. Knowing what the Yukon was capable of producing, Lee says they hunted carefully in search of giant bulls. One of the difficult things about moose hunting is that they are such massive animals that even small moose look enormous to the untrained eye, something Tiffany quickly realized on the hunt. She notes she was also blown away by how far away they could hear moose from and although the calls sounded like they were right next to a bull, it was actually up to a mile away. In the end, her quest for a Yukon moose came down to a rushed moment right outside of camp where they spotted her bull at 150 yards. The bull sauntered into bow range and she was able to release an arrow and then quickly take a follow-up shot to secure her Yukon bull. Lee and Tiffany talk about the difficulty of those shots and note that her follow-up shot was longer range at 70 yards. The ability for a hunter to maintain their composure in those pinch situations is key, but even more importantly, having practice and experience to draw upon while in those situations can mean the difference between a hit and miss. They both note that practicing with their bows at long distance is something they do frequently. It's not that you want to shoot an animal really far out, Lee says, but it makes the closer shots feel that much easier and it makes those follow-up shots quicker and more accurate. When all was said and done, Tiffany ended up with a sixty-plus inch bull and a hunt of a lifetime and viewers can watch that hunt anytime with MyOutdoorTV in Season 12, Episode 9 entitled "Tiffany's Moose of a Lifetime".
In the second half of Lee and Tiffany's double header here on The Revolution, the subject changes to deer nutrition, growing big deer, and the science behind reaching true genetic potential. The realized genetic potential of a buck seems to be ever increasing as more and more hunters are actively managing their properties for better age structure, nutrition, habitat and more. Lee and Tiffany have made a career out of harvesting big deer, however in recent years they've been able to consistently kill bigger and better deer, season after season. Is it the nutrition that makes the difference in growing deer of this caliber? Lee says that's a question you never really definitively know the answer to, however, he believes excellent nutrition has a lot to do with not only growing big deer, but keeping them healthy and disease free. Lee and Tiffany talk about their partnership with Ani-Logics and discuss what implementing a nutritional regimen of Ani-Logics feed has meant for the deer on their property for the last five years. While exceptional nutrition has a lot to do with overall health, Lee stresses that the other factor that leads to growing bigger deer is a hunter's ability to pass on younger deer and let them grow. Lee talks about the correlation they've seen between good nutrition, management practices and being able to grow and shoot bigger deer consistently every season. You can get lucky once in your lifetime and shoot a massive buck, he says, but beyond that it requires work.
