Nomadic, Sustainable, Adventure Seeking with “AdVANture Hunter” Jim Kinsey

Everyone wants to be able to do what they love for a living, however few people are actually able to turn their passion into a career. That's especially true for travelers and adventure seekers. How do you take your life on the road and chase adventure? Jim Kinsey has been in film and broadcast production for more than 20 years, much of which has been centered around hunting, fishing, conservation and the outdoors. Jim has recently embarked on a new endeavor, and he joins The Revolution this week to talk about his exciting new series.

Debuting on Sportsman Channel this year is Jim's new series, "AdVANture Hunter". Not just a hunting show, this new series tackles a culture and/or lifestyle that is all about nomadic living, sustainability, conservation, and pursuing adventure. Jim and co-host Brandon Nelson take viewers on unforgettable adventures with interesting people. The first season of "AdVANture Hunter" features big wave surfing, hiking dangerous avalanche-prone backcountry, spearing in shark infested oceans, flying experimental trikes, climbing in Yosemite and so much more.

It all starts with the van that Jim purchased in 2019, a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 High Roof. This isn't your average soccer mom's van, it's an all-out adventure rig. Using the shell of the Sprinter, Jim had the interior and exterior completely customized to create a vehicle he can work from, live out of and chase adventure in. Jim's van is wrapped in a Kryptek camo pattern, has a winch mounted on the side for hoisting big game, a 2 burner induction cooktop, outside shower, a 315-watt solar panel on the roof, room to sleep 4 and much more. It's from this van that Jim is able to pack up his life, hit the road, live out of his van, make a living and do some serious adventure seeking all at the same time.

Jim talks about the eastern Colorado pronghorn hunt he and Brandon went on which was Brandon's first time hunting with a muzzleloader and first time shooting with open sights. When the opportunity came for Jim to do some hunting as well, a few misses made the hunt more challenging. Jim says he likes to show viewers the reality of a hunt or adventure - the good and the bad. Being real with viewers and acknowledging that missing a shot happens is important to him. Jim says after a few missed shots and much persistence he was able to get a shot on a pronghorn buck which ended up being a record book, Boone & Crockett buck. Jim also talks about a wonderful experience he had with the well-known Manny Puig who is a wildlife expert, hunter, fisherman and primitive weaponry maker. Jim chats about this Florida AdVANture with Manny where they built their own tridents and took them out on an airboat to spear tilapia on Lake Okeechobee.

Trav is a small town kid driven by hunting, fishing, rock/honky-tonk music, cold beer and his wife and kids. Being raised in a rural area surrounded by wildlife and lacking the luxurious amenities of big city life might be challenging to some; however, to Trav, it was an utter blessing. So, don't bother searching for him online and you couldn’t pay him to own an iPhone, but let me reassure you of this: If there’s hunting and fishing, cold beer on tap and shaving isn’t required, he’s certainly not too far. What you see is what you get with Trav and to sum him up is simple, he doesn’t ask for a lot and he’ll never need much, a rifle, a bow, the love of his good looking wife and to be all that his children will ever need!
